The Andalusian Horse or Purebred Spanish Horse - PRE (Pura Raza Espanola) became a recognized breed in the 15th century when the King of Spain commissioned His army to develop the breed exclusively for the Spanish.
Since its beginning the Andalusian has been prized by Nobility for its strength and bravery as a horse of war and was restricted from export from Spain until around the 1960s.
Andalusians are compact, strong and extremely elegant horses, known particularly for their thick manes and tails and their calm but brave temperament. Their intelligence is legendary and they are proud and sensitive horses, that make wonderful companions.
Andalusians are used for all types of equestrian activities, including dressage, showing, jumping and even driving. They can be seen regularly in all manner of historical films and TV productions because they are considered both reliable and courageous.
The breed is becoming more popular in the UK as their numerous qualities become known and people discover that it is possible to attain so many desirable qualities in one horse.
